MSU-Mankato Tournament in Mankato, MN (27-29 Oct) [More]
SDSU Cricket Club participated in a 9-team battle at Minnesota State University in Mankato, MN. The team left on 27th October and played their first 2 round #1 matches on Saturday. Winning one and losing one match, SDSU qualified for the next round of Super 6. SDSU played back-to-back match in Super 6 and lost a thrilling match. The next match was against MSU-Elites. SDSU gave a great fight and was never out of the game till the end. MSU-Elites went ahead to qualify for the semi-finals and finals, where they beat the seemingly invincible University of Minnesota team. The other teams that participated included NDSU, Muttahida IX, NATO, Sholay Cricket Club, MSU-Indians and MSU-Nepali. SDSU displayed outstanding fighting spirit and the now experienced players gave their best in each game.

Eswar Verma bowled very well and earned the first man-of-the-match award beating Sholay Cricket Club. Not only did he perform the best, he also displayed sportsmanship and respect towards his fellow team-mate Shyam Shankar, who performed well in the same game, by sharing his man-of-the-match award with him.

Cricket Lite tournament in Fargo, ND (15-16 Sep)
SDSU Cricket Club left for the tournament in Fargo on 14th September. SDSU played two games on Friday to qualify for the next round. After a tough first game, SDSU came back winning in grand style by defeating USD by a great margin. In the next round, SDSU played MSU-Mankato yet again and restricted the team to a score that was possible to chase. SDSU fell short with a slower run-rate and did not qualify for the following round. New players in the squad got some good batting and pressure situation experience. We hope to do better next year. NDSU won the tournament.

Panakalu Vangala received the sole man-of-match in the match where SDSU beat USD big time. He was perhaps the only 5-wicket taker since the tournament started. This statistic is yet to be confirmed, but it is a very important feat for the player and for the team. The team also displayed some brilliant catching and fielding. SDSU has been noted for their decent behavior and sportsmanship on and off the field.

Cricket Lite tournament in Fargo, ND (9-10 Sep)
Five-team tournament started of with St. Cloud dropping out, leaving the four teams to fight among themselves. SDSU, NDSU Bison, NDSU Hawks and MSU@Mankato started off with some surprise. The first time participant Mankato defeated defending champions Bisons. On the other hand, SDSU with its only loss in the last 2 years started off with a dominant victory. SDSU was not able to capitalize on that victory further to reach the semifinals. Noticeably, the team needed more stamina and, in future, should bench injured players. The defending champions Bisons rose strongly out of their opening defeat and went on to win the tournament 2nd time in a row.

Rama Rao, SDSU player, was adjudged the Best Batsman of the Tournament.

Cricket Lite tournament in Fargo, ND (17-18 Sep)
Defending champions SDSU started of with another strong team and participated in the 5-team tournament consisting of NDSU Bison, NDSU Hawks, MSU@Moorhead and Concordia Club. SDSU breezed through its opening league matches facing its arch-rival NDSU Bisons in the semi-finals. Bisons were 2-0 down against SDSU and they did not lose the opportunity to square a victory. They eventually went on to win the tournament, whereas SDSU learnt that over-confidence hurts.

Cricket Lite tournament in Fargo, ND (18-19 Sep)
SDSU gets an invitation from NDSU to play the Cricket-Lite tournament for the very first time. The newly formed unofficial Brookings-11 club at SDSU self-supported their travel to play other 5 teams at NDSU. With 3 dramatic nail-biting finishes, SDSU came back victorious. Veterans smile big each time they remember of the fabulous victory - and that happens often. Cricket has brought along a special way students remember Brookings.
